Peace & Poverty (and Pot?)

Greetings!

Everyone please take time to remember the fallen of September 11, 2001. And bless the veterans who have fought, and the people who have lost their lives since, all due to one unjustifiable, inexplicable tragedy.

And wish for peace.

I was not called for work at the fair. However, I did receive some good news. The people for whom I worked at the beginning of the year, who are doing the tax course, told me not to worry about the books and material fee. They are waiving that for me. All I have to do is show up.

I am eternally thankful. For that, and for many other things. But my first thought was that just when it seems there is no hope, something or someone comes along and restores my faith in the world and human nature.

There is always hope. You only lose if you give up.

Volunteers of America, Utah, which provides ready-to-eat cans of food and other basic survival items to homeless youths and adults, is out of food. The organization helped more than 850 homeless youths and 1,200 homeless adults in Salt Lake County last year, but the emergency pantry shelves are practically bare going into the colder season. A drive-by food collection will take place Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Homeless Youth Resource Center, 655 S. State in Salt Lake City.
